Ron Howard Shares the First Photo of Chewbacca on ‘Han Solo’ Set
Ron Howard finally learned how to use his phone camera! The director has been sharing a bunch of obscure (and relatively boring) photos from the set of the Han Solo movie since taking over as director. He took a photo of a case of water bottles (thrilling!), a street sign outside Pinewood Studios, and a coffee mug, convincing me that they all must have been accidents. He was clearly trying to take a selfie with Alden Ehrenreich’s titular smuggler but couldn’t figure out how to reverse the camera. Finally, today, we got a revealing photo.
Howard tweeted a shot of Chewbacca on the set of the still-untitled Han Solo movie. Joonas Suotamo is costumed up as the beloved hairy creature as he’s peeping a shot in video village. Even more interesting though is what he’s looking at on the monitors. Chewie seems to be watching a scene of two Wookies in a loving embracing. Will we perhaps meet some of Chewie’s family members and see Wookies share some tender moments?
Last week we got a look at Chewie on set with Ehrenreich’s Han in a pair of leaked photos from TMZ. The two were spotted hanging out with Woody Harrelson on a levitating platform with a woman whom we speculated could be Emilia Clarke‘s character.
Howard’s Han Solo film will also star Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and despite the director shake-up, Harrelson assured fans not to worry, promising that the Force was still very much with the movie under Howard’s direction. The Han Solo spinoff hits theaters May 25, 2018.
