A law to help emergency responders with post-traumatic stress in Maine has received the nod from Gov. Paul LePage with his signature.

The bill was signed into law on Monday, July 24, which means firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and law enforcement officers can receive worker's compensation for that type of diagnoses.

The bill is to take effect by 2022 at which time a state board will analyze such claims and make a report to the Legislature.

The law does not include actions like layoffs, termination, or disciplinary actions. The law becomes effective 90 days following the Legislature's official last day.
