Police say that 63-year-old Fredrick Lindsay, formerly of Houlton, swerved around a car that had stopped at the railroad crossing and ended up hitting the train, belonging to Maine, Montreal & Atlantic Railway. Lindsay was trapped in the crushed front end of his truck. It took rescue personnel almost an hour to free him from the wreckage. He remained conscious and talking during that time.

He was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with undisclosed injuries.

Hampden Police and Rescue, along with rescue personnel from Bangor and Newburgh and a LifeFlight helicopter crew assisted at the scene of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Lindsay and his family.
