Elks Hoop Shoot Winners Announced
The Presque Isle Elks Hoop Shoot foul shooting contest for kids from 8-13 years old was recently held at the Wieden Hall gym of the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
In the boys’ 8 and 9 year-old division, the winner was Cruze Cassavant of Presque Isle, who had advanced to the Lodge Hoop Shoot after winning the foul shooting contest at Zippel School. Runner-up was Jacob Edgecomb, of Limestone. Blayne Tardif, of Mapleton, won in the girls 8 and 9 year-old division. Blayne had previously won in her age group at Mapleton Elementary School. Elizabeth Robbins finished second.
In the 10 and 11 year-old age group, in the boys division, Branden Porter was the winner with Killian Deschaine the runner up. Branden moved on after winning at the Mapleton Elementary School. Killian was the best in his age group at Zippel Elementary School. Ainsley Caron was high scorer in the girls division after winning in her age group in Caribou and Madison Oaks was the runner up, moving on from the Mapleton Elementary School.
Wesley LaPointe was the winner in the boys' 12 and 13 year-old age group at the Presque Isle Elks Hoop Shoot. Wesley won in his age group at the Caribou Middle School. Owen Sweeney finished second, advancing after winning at the Easton Middle School. Jorja Maynard was the winner of the girls’ 12 and 13 year-old division, advancing after winning at the Presque Isle Middle School. The runner-up was Anna Oliver, who previously won at her school in Hodgdon.
The six winners will now advance to the Maine North District Hoop Shoot to be held on Sunday, January 6, at the James F. Doughty School in Bangor. There they will compete for the right to participate in the Maine Elks State Championship Hoop Shoot on January 27.
