The Red Sox's starting pitching woes continued Saturday night, as Eduardo Rodriguez struggled through 4.1 innings in Boston's 6-5 loss to the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.

Rodriguez allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits while walking three and throwing 105 pitches, 61 for strikes.

Over Boston's first three games, Chris Sale, Nathan Eovaldi and Rodriguez have combined to go just 12.1 innings while giving up 18 earned runs.

For the first time in team history, Boston's starters gave up six runs or more in each of the first three games.

Rodriguez was tagged for a pair of runs in the first inning, allowing an RBI single to Tim Beckham and a run-scoring double to Ryon Healy.

A Dee Gordon single gave the Mariners a 3-2 edge in the bottom of the fourth.

Jay Bruce extended the lead with his first home run of the season, a three-run shot to center field in the fifth.

The Red Sox made things interesting in the ninth, scoring three runs on three consecutive errors by Mariners third baseman Dylan Moore. That cut the deficit to 6-5, but then Xander Bogaerts was called out on strikes to end the game.

The Red Sox drop to 1-2, while the Mariners improve to 4-1. The two teams will wrap up their four-game series Sunday afternoon. Rick Porcello will take the mound in his season debut for the Red Sox.
