Dustin Lynch’s ‘Good Girl’ Marks His First No. 1 as a Songwriter
Dustin Lynch's "Good Girl" tops both the Billboard and Country Aircheck/Mediabase Country Airplay charts this week.
Lynch co-wrote the infectious summer jam with Justin Ebach and Andy Albert last year and rushed to release it to country radio as a stand-alone track written after his 2017 album, Current Mood.
"I've never started the year with a No. 1 song, and I've got to say, this feels really good," Lynch says. "I moved to town with the dream of writing songs and singing on stage, and finally the stars aligned, and everything worked out. I've learned the lesson of perseverance, of hard work and continuing to hone your craft."
Dustin Lynch Was a Bit of a Charmer in His Teen Years
"Good Girl" is Lynch's sixth chart-topping hit, but first No. 1 as a songwriter. He says the achievement is "very, very special. As a songwriter, getting a No. 1 is life-changing."
Lynch had no plans to record new music last year, but after he wrote "Good Girl" he knew the rest of the world had to hear his creation. In an interview with Taste of Country Nights host Sam Alex, the singer shares the evolution of the song, saying:
"It came out of nowhere. Honestly, I was just writing because I love to write and I need to. My muscle needs to create and write. I had a couple buddies out on tour, we were on the Brad Paisley tour. They were out writing songs with me and 'Good Girl' happened out of nowhere. Since that day it has raised its hand and said, 'Me, me, me! Put me out."
"Good Girl" follows Lynch hits "Small Town Boy," "Where It's At," "Hell of a Night," "Mind Reader" and "Seein’ Red."
