Deputy Sheriff Alishia Ledger determined that 36-year-old Scott Strid of Fort Fairfield was traveling north in his 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix when he fell asleep at the wheel. Strid’s car went off the road and struck a utility pole, snapping the pole and bringing down the wires.

The Sheriff’s Office said 64-year-old Donald Ouellette of Hampden was also northbound, directly behind Strid, and struck the downed wires causing damage to the front of his 2014 Ford pickup.

Strid's vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

There were no injuries and everyone involved was wearing their seat belts, according to Sheriff Darrell Crandall.

Route 1 in Bridgewater was closed for about an hour due to the downed electrical wires.
