Someone made a grim discovery of the body of a young dead dog in a container in the waters along a popular park in Orono Thursday afternoon. The Orono Police Department says they were notified of the issue shortly after 2 PM.

"Tragically, the puppy was found inside a black backpack, along with a concrete block, in the area of Webster Park."

The local Animal Control Officer was contacted and brought in to work with the authorities. They said the animal did not appear to be microchipped. Authorities are waiting on the results of an autopsy to determine how the dog ultimately died.

The Orono Police would like to hear from anyone who might have information on what happened to this animal. If you saw anything unusual in that area in the last few days, please reach out to Detective Sergeant Mike Cyr at the Orono Police Department at 207-866-4000 or mcyr@orono.org.
