- He posed naked with his guitar in the April 2001 issue of Playgirl magazine.
- He performed in Philadelphia in July 2005 for the U.S. leg of the Live 8 concerts in support of African debt relief.
- He was the first artist in CMA Awards history to win the Horizon Award (2001), Male Vocalist of the Year (2004, 2005) and Entertainer of the Year (2005).
- Along with Vince Gill, he created 2009's We're All for the Hall benefit for the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum. The concert featured Urban and Gill performing with stars such as Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum, and raised more than $500,000.
- In 2012, he was the first non-North American artist inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.
