Changes Coming to Maine’s Concealed Permit Process
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine lawmakers will meet this fall to examine the state's concealed permit process to attempt to address a backlog that has residents waiting an nearly five months to receive concealed weapons permits.
Current law says that Maine residents of more than five years must receive a response to their permit application within 30 days.
But Lt. Scott Ireland of Maine State Police Department says increased permit applications and limited resources have made that impossible.
