CMA New Artist Nominee Carly Pearce: ‘I Wanna Go Down in Country Music History’
2019 CMA New Artist of the Year nominee Carly Pearce has never wavered in the kind of music she wants to make: Since she was a child, she has been a die-hard country fan who watched the CMA Awards each year. Now that she's nominated for her first-ever trophy, Pearce says she's more driven than ever to keep carving out her place in the genre.
"All I'm trying to do is tell my stories and share my truths, and I feel like because I have a microphone, it's my duty to really tap into authenticity," the singer explains in a new video leading up to the CMA Awards ceremony on Wednesday night (Nov. 13.)
"I've grown up watching the show. I've dreamt of what it would be like to win," Pearce continues. "So many people who win New Artist of the Year go on to be the spearheads of the genre. It feels like I've arrived in a lot of ways, just in myself and in the music that I'm creating...There was just this sense of knowing who you are, knowing where you're going, knowing the kind of music, the kind of artist, the kind of narrative you wanna write. The kind of story that I wanna write.
"I hope this is just the beginning of that," she adds.
After this year's CMA Awards, Pearce will turn her attention to her just-announced new album. Her sophomore album, which will be self-titled, will reflect her strong country leanings and the confidence that she has developed over the past few years in herself and her music.
The 2019 CMA Awards are set for Nov. 13 at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena; the ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC beginning at 8PM ET. Carrie Underwood is returning to co-host the event for the 12th consecutive year, with Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton as her guest co-hosts. The 2019 CMA Awards will find the CMA celebrating country music's legendary female figures.
