A camper overturned on I-295 Friday morning in Richmond after a tractor trailer swerved into the lane and struck the camper, said Maine State Police.

71-year-old Wilford Dockham of Gilmanton, New Hampshire was taken to an Augusta hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His wife, Connie was not injured, said police.

61-year-old Thomas Bettcher was driving the tractor trailer. He did not immediately stop, but called police from the West Gardiner service plaza a few miles up the road, authorities said.

Troopers from the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit conducted a complete safety check of Bettcher’s vehicle following the crash. No charges were immediately lodged. Bettcher was hauling cement slabs to Bangor.

Traffic on the northbound side was disrupted for over an hour as the wrecked camper and pickup were removed.
