Boots-N-Bulls: The Skills & Rules of Bareback Riding
September 15th at the Northern Maine Fairgrounds! Boots-N-Bulls presented by Huber Engineered Woods & Hogan Tire! We’ll see you there!
Tickets available at Hogan Tire locations in Presque Isle, Houlton & Caribou
JUDGING:
Bareback riding is judged on a potential 100 points. The rider has the chance at 50 points based on technique. The horse’s style gets the other 50 points. 75 to 85 points is a good average. The ride has to last 8 seconds.
Good spurring skills are required – the spurs need to touch the horse over the shoulder with the first jump in the ring. The rider is disqualified if not.
You cannot touch the horse with your free hand at any time – on purpose or not. It is a disqualified ride if you do.
Losing a stirrup is part of the judging too. If a rider loses one, the ride is disqualified.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR:
The best technique has the toes turned out, consistently spurring with the horse bucking in a straight run. These are the main factors that determine the overall score.
Get ready because bareback riding happens fast!
