Blake Shelton is taking fans back in time to 2001 with a special acoustic release of his emotional hit single, “Austin.”

On the stripped-down remake, Shelton opts for only gentle acoustic guitar strums to let his vocals emote the plaintive story of "Austin."

“If you’re callin' 'bout the car I sold it / If this is Tuesday night I'm bowlin' / If you've got somethin' to sell your wastin' your time, I'm not buyin' / If it's anybody else wait for the tone you know what to do / And P.S., if this is Austin, I still love you,” he sings tenderly, with an almost palpable ache in his voice.

Shelton first released "Austin" 21 years ago as his debut single on country radio. Written by David Kent and Kirsti Manna, the song earned him his first-ever No. 1 in 2001. It reached the top of the Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart and stayed there for five weeks.

Since then, Shelton has grown to be a household name in both country music and through his career as a coach on The Voice. Over the span of his multi-decade career, the Oklahoma native has amassed 28 No.1 hits on the Billboard Country Airplay chart and almost a dozen Gold and Platinum-certified singles.

Shelton released Body Language, which is his twelfth and latest studio album, in 2021. It has spawned the hit singles “Happy Anywhere” with Gwen Stefani, “Minimum Wage” and “Come Back as a Country Boy.”
