60 Apartments To Be Built Along Broadway in Bangor By End Of Year
It's been an ongoing issue in the Bangor area for quite some time; lack of available housing for an ever-growing population.
But the City stands to get a much-needed boost in the number of rentals open by the end of the year.
How, you might ask?
Well, if you've driven along Broadway in Bangor recently, in the area near St. Joseph's Internal Medicine (if you're heading out of town, towards Corinth) you have likely noticed the big mounds of earth being pushed around, and sections of trees that are being cleared from of that area.
It's quite a large chunk of land that looks like it's being prepped for development. But for what?
We reached out to David Warren, Administrative and Communications Manager for the City of Bangor, and he said that that spot will eventually become apartments.
"That project on Broadway involves new housing, and as you probably know the city is pushing hard for not just new housing units, but also housing that’s helpful to people across all income levels. Sixty units will be built on the Broadway site and they’ll be offered at market rate."
The project, called Northbrook Apartment Homes, will occupy much of the space along 870 Broadway and has been in the works for several years now.
The City issued the land permit in July of 2022, and crews have been working, steadily, to prep the land for the units to be built. While Kiser & Kiser Engineering and Development Consulting, the firm working on the build, has not put in for a building permit with the Bangor's Code Enforcement Office (yet), according to paperwork filed with the City in the fall of 2022, the build has a projected completion date of this coming September, barring any delays.
"Applicant must commence construction within one year from the date of approval and complete the project by September 20, 2024..."
On a bit of a side note, if you have driven by, perhaps you've noticed the beautiful view of the city and beyond now visible from the roadside. Whoever gets the pleasure of renting the units furthest from the road would assumably have one killer view out their window.
