An Ashland man has been sentenced to prison for allegedly providing drugs to a Mapleton man who died two years ago from an apparent overdose.

Maine State Police say 30-year-old Trevor Tompkins of Ashland pleaded guilty on September 7th to Aggravated Unlawful Trafficking of Schedule Drugs Resulting in Death (Class A).

He received a sentence of 18 years in prison with all but 6 years suspended. Police say he will also serve 4 years of probation after he is released.

Tompkins was alleged to have sold a heroin and fentanyl mixture to 41-year-old David Sowers of Mapleton in September 2016. Sowers was found deceased at his residence of an apparent drug overdose.

Following a lengthy investigation by Trooper Nick Casavant and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Tompkins was indicted by an Aroostook County Grand Jury in April 2017.
