The theme for the 2017 Crown of Maine Balloonfest Street Fair on Main Street in Presque Isle on Thursday, August 24, is “New Energy on Main Street”, according to event chair Alan Harding of the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge #1954, sponsors of the street fair.

Consistent with that theme, according to Harding, the music for the street fair will be provided by Powerage, a four-member band which features the music of AC/DC and other upbeat, rock and roll styles.  Powerage band members include Marcel Ruest, vocalist and bass guitar player, Adam Lavoie, rhythm guitarist, and Wade Michaud, drummer, all of Van Buren, and Tim Lowery, lead guitarist, of Orient, Maine. Powerage has been playing to appreciative audiences throughout Maine and New Brunwick over the past two years.

Music for the 2017 Crown of Maine Street Fair is sponsored by Machias Savings Bank.  The stage for the band will be set up in the middle of the intersection of State and Main Streets and again will be provided by Cavendish Farm Services.

In addition to live musical entertainment, the Allstar Galaxy Cheerleaders will be performing their routines on Main Street in Presque Isle between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. during the street fair.  The Presque Isle Fire Department will be demonstrating its equipment, as well as staffing its Learn Not to Burn exhibit.

Young people will have the opportunity to attempt to complete an obstacle course sponsored by The Aroostook Medical Center.  The Presque Isle Elks will be offering free contests for young people to win school supplies.

As in previous years, the Balloonfest Street Fair will feature a dunking booth sponsored by the Presque Isle Elks and a bounce house for young people.

In addition to a variety of entertainment for young and old, the 2017 Balloonfest Street Fair will feature an abundance of varied food choices.  The St. John’s Episcopal Church will be offering fresh strawberry shortcakes.  The Presque Isle Elks will be offering hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks, popcorn, and shaved ice, with all proceeds going to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.  Governor’s will be offering lobster rolls and desserts from a location at the intersection of State and Main Street.  The Northeastland Hotel will be offering sidewalk service with a special menu for the street fair.  Many other food vendors will also be present.

The Balloonfest Street Fair is always a fun event,” said Elks Exalted Ruler Marion Donahue.  “It is an opportunity for the entire community to visit with neighbors and old friends from throughout the community while enjoying the sights and sounds of a street fair.  It truly is a block party for everyone,” Donahue concluded.

During the Elks’ Crown of Maine Balloonfest Street Fair, there will be live musical entertainment from a stage at the intersection of State and Main Street in Presque Isle.
