“We’re looking forward to some popular traditional activities to draw people from on and off campus to this year’s Homecoming activities,” said Mike Thibodeau, President of the Alumni and Friends Organization and 1977 graduate of the college.  “We want to be sure to include as many current students as possible so activities will begin on Thursday.  For people who haven’t had the opportunity to visit the campus lately, they will be very impressed with all the changes…most especially the Akeley Student Center and Smith Wellness Center.”

Things get underway on Thursday evening with a barbecue dinner from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. at Reed Dining Commons.  There will be door prizes and a “Fitness-Through-The-Years” costume contest will provide some entertainment. Come dressed in workout gear from your favorite era and win a cash prize!    The dinner is being sponsored by NMCC’s Student Senate to welcome students and employees to a new semester, and to welcome alumni back to campus.

Be sure to wear your sneakers because after dinner, alumni are invited to join NMCC employees to form a softball team that will face off against a student team.  The groups will warm up beginning at 6 p.m. and the game will be played at the NMCC soccer field at 6:30.  It’s free and participants will be given team tee shirts.

On Friday, alumni and friends of the college are invited to take part in the annual Alumni Dinner & Awards.  The evening marks an opportunity for alumni and others to visit campus, meet up with old friends, and network with other alumni and professionals from the college and community.  The evening will honor Dennis and Cindy Albert of Presque Isle as the recipients of this year’s Torchbearer Award for their outstanding and consistent efforts on behalf of the Alumni and Friends Organization. Joe McLaughlin, NMCC computer instructor for nearly 30 years will be recognized as the 2014 Instructor of the Year.

The reception begins at 5:30 and the cost of the dinner is $25. Pre-registration is required.  Those interested in attending should contact Bobbie-Jo Caron in NMCC’s alumni office at 760-1188 no later than September 3rd.

Questions regarding Homecoming activities can be directed to the college relations office at 768-2809.
