The Boston Red Sox bid to sweep the Yankees fell short when the Yanks scored the 4-1 win last night. The victory gives New York one of the two wildcard playoff spots.

The Yankees hit three home runs (Beltran, Bird, Refsnyder) while the Sox lineup did nothing against Yankee pitching.

Perhaps it was because the Sox chose not to play guys like David Ortiz or Dustin Pedroia.

Three games remain on the schedule, against the Cleveland Indians, starting tonight.
