State Police say a family of seven on their way back from Bangor to their home in Woodland Sunday evening struck a moose and totaled their vehicle.

Trooper Patrick Pescitelli responded to crash on Route 11 in T8-R5 around 7:45 p.m.

Police say 52-year-old Robert Arce of Woodland was driving the 2014 Dodge van.The occupants, who were wearing seat belts, were checked by Ashland EMS for injuries and released. Speed was not a factor in the crash, police say.

Ashland Fire Department assisted in keeping the family’s younger children warm while State Police tried to make arrangements for a ride.

Maine Guide, John Graves, son of legendary trooper Bud Graves heard the radio traffic and called in to offer assistance, police said. The family was taken to Ashland Fire Department where Mr. Graves picked them up and transported them to their home in Woodland.
