Police were called to a crash in Woodland yesterday where a vehicle struck a utility pole and knocked out electricity in the surrounding area .

Maine State Police Trooper Dan Marquis reports 28-year-old Emily Hanson of Scarborough was traveling North on Route 161 when she lost control of her 2013 Jeep Wrangler on the slippery roadway just before 4:30 pm. Marquis says Hanson slid off into the ditch, striking a telephone pole.

Hanson suffered minor injuries and did not have to be transported to hospital. The Jeep was towed from the scene with significant damage.

Caribou Fire and Ambulance and a crew from Emera Maine assisted at the scene, with electrical service restored by midnight.

The accident knocked out power to more than 1700 customers in Caribou, New Sweden, Nashville Plantation, Portage, Perham, Westmanland and Woodland.
