A Caribou woman was arrested Saturday evening for Operating Under the Influence after the SUV she was driving crashed on U.S. Route 1 in Bridgewater.

Maine State Police say 34-year-old Ashley Spinney of Caribou was heading south in a 2016 GMC Terrain around 5:30 p.m. when she drove off the right side of the road and into some trees. State Troopers, Crown Ambulance and Bridgewater Fire Department all responded to the crash.

Police say Spinney was wearing her seat belt and was not injured. She allegedly told troopers that she was texting and driving, according to a news release from Troop F. After an investigation, Spinney was arrested for OUI and taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.

Spinney was also charged with violating her current conditions of release, as she was awaiting a court appearance for a previous OUI arrest, police say.  She is scheduled to appear in court in Houlton on July 19.
