“We are extremely grateful to the Trustees of the Davis Family Foundation for this grant and their continued support,” said Dottie Hutchins, Wintergreen’s executive director.  “This is the first grant the Foundation has awarded Wintergreen to support the Center’s off-site programming, and the third Foundation grant awarded to Wintergreen since 2012.”

During the 2016-2017 schoolyear, Wintergreen diversified its afterschool programs to include creative writing, youth theatre, and community art.  The Center also launched Under the Willow Tree, a creative preschool, and initiated pilot summer arts programs at the Presque Isle Housing Authority, the Agency on Aging’s Adult Daycare Center, the Presque Isle Rehab & Nursing Center, and Leisure Village, with a goal of creating sustainable community outreach for all ages.

“This grant will help ensure Wintergreen’s continued success in taking art outside of the Center,” added Hutchins.  “We know there are barriers such as transportation that make it difficult for some people to come to us, so we’ll go to them.”
