Willie Nelson is in the news twice recently. His pot bust in 2006 & his trouble with the IRS in 1990. The month of September has been rough on him - but through it all, he persevered. He is our Classic Country Artist.

When it comes to marijuana, Nelson has this to say:

I think people need to be educated to the fact that marijuana is not a drug. Marijuana is an herb and a flower. God put it here."

Willie is a legend for claiming he smoked pot on the White House roof - but what's the real story? How did it go down? His recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel is very revealing.

Nelson's tax issues was serious trouble for him - in 1990, he owed $16 million. The problem was unpaid taxes from '78-'82. Willie was in a lot of trouble. He almost lost his CBS royalties, had liens against his homes & possessions, and was locked out of his studios.

He paid a big part of it off by making an album called the IRS Tapes - which were previously unreleased studio sessions.

One good thing happened to Willie in September. Farm Aid's first show was September 22, 1985 in Champagne, Illinois

His hit song, "Crazy" - made popular by Patsy Cline - sums up a lot of the turmoil that Willie went through.
