Western New Brunswick Man Attempts to Rob Restaurant with Bear Spray

A 25-year-old man from Somerville, New Brunswick has been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted robbery at a restaurant in Bath. 

RCMP say on Wednesday at approximately 10:45 a.m., a man wearing a helmet with a full face mask entered the Monquarter Restaurant & Lounge at 382 Main Street in Bath and pretended to be a patron. A few minutes later, the man allegedly attempted to remove the cash drawer from the cash register and a safe from the premises, threatening the lone female employee with a can of bear spray.

Police say the man then fled without stealing anything and left on a green all-terrain vehicle. No one was injured.

Yesterday at around 3 p.m., members of the West District RCMP arrested a man in connection with the incident.

Bon Scott Trecartin, of Somerville, appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court today and was charged with attempted robbery, robbery for committing an assault with the intent to steal, and having his face covered with the intent to commit a crime.

Trecartin has been remanded into custody until his next court appearance, scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

Trecartin has been arrested several other times for other offenses over the past seven years.
