Weekend Fire in Caribou Destroys Garage, Vintage Car

A Saturday afternoon fire in Caribou destroyed a garage and a classic car that was inside.

Caribou Fire Department Captain Mike McCarthy said the blaze broke at a garage on the Belanger Road at around noontime Saturday. The homeowner apparently noticed the flames and called for help.

There were three classic cars in the garage at the time. Luckily, the homeowner was able to get two of them out before fire fighters arrived. The third car didn't make it out of the garage before flames consumed it.

An adjacent home sustained only minimal damage and was insured.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating due to the significant value of the car that was lost, although the fire is not considered suspicious.
