The Waterville Panthers came from behind and won the Class B North Regional boy’s hockey title with a 6-5 victory over Old Town/Orono at the Alfond Arena Tuesday night.

Senior Justin Wentworth scored the game winner during the overtime session to give the Panthers the win after Waterville notched the equalizer in the final five minutes of regulation.  Six different Waterville skaters scored goals in the regional title win.

The Black Bears jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period of play when Tyler Wheeler and Jacob Gallon notched goals, beating Waterville goalie Nathan Pinnette.  The Panthers would answer back in the early parts of the second when Jackson Aldrich scored his lone goal of the contest.  Again, the Black Bears answered back with an overtime goal scored by Jacob Dubay two minutes later on.  Panther freshman Zaharias Menoudarakos would cut it down to a 3-2 score before the end of the second.

The third period saw five total goals, three of which came from the Waterville side to force the game into overtime which eventually saw the game winner from Wentworth.

Waterville will head to the State Championship on Saturday with a still yet to be determined opponent from Class B South.
