Nashville is kicking up the drama in a new trailer for Season 5, which premieres in January on CMT. Click play to watch a one-minute clip with exclusive shots of what's to come in 2017.

Featuring all your favorite Nashville regulars, the new promo from CMT starts out on a dramatic foot, with clips of flashing cameras and intense scenes.

"We all break, that's what makes us human," says Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton), before flashing over to Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere). "We tape ourselves together so that no one can see our flawed hearts."

The clip gets a bit darker, showing Deacon's penchant for alcohol and a shot of Juliette swallowing a handful of mysterious pills but as always, it's the music that pulls everyone back together. "If my choices have made me," says Will Lexington (Chris Carmack), "it's music that saves me."

Although we don't get too much insight into what the new season will bring, the message behind this latest Nashville promo spot is definitely in keeping with the new direction of the show. New showrunner Marshall Herskovitz says that music will take center stage in season five, even more than in past years. He promises "shorter scripts so there's time for the music to play out," a sentiment that's certainly in keeping with the new ad.

Season 5 of Nashville will premiere on Jan. 5 with a special two-hour episode. The show will air on CMT and also stream via Hulu.
