Postseason games in college basketball usually comes down to strong defensive play, an area where Maine has struggled. That was the case Wednesday in a 99-82 loss to Vermont in the America East Tourney.

Perimeter defense was a problem for the Bears at the Catamounts hit 12 shots from behind the arch including 6 by Cam Ward who led five Vermont players in double digits with 24 points. His team shot 66% from the field on the way to their 20th win of the season and a spot in the semifinals against New Hampshire. Maine's season comes to an end with a record of 8-22.

Vermont led the entire game after opening with a 13-4 run as play began. The 99 points scored by the Cats was the 11th time this season Maine allowed 90 or more points in a game.

Maine was led by conference all-rookie team member Isaac Vann who poured in 26 points. Aaron Calixte added 17 points. The Bears also turned the ball over 16 times which Vermont turned into 28 points.
