Maine State Police responded to the crash shortly after 8:30 p.m.  According to Corporal Chuck Michaud, who investigated the accident, Jacklyne Girard was traveling north in her 1999 Subaru when a moose ran into the roadway and struck the front of her vehicle.

The moose crashed into the windshield and pushed the windshield and roof of the car nearly as far back as the second row seat area, Michaud said.

Girard was removed from the wreckage by Caribou Fire and Ambulance personnel and transported to Cary Medical Center for treatment of what police called "non-life threatening" injuries. Girard was wearing her seat belt.

The vehicle was demolished in the crash and had to be towed from the scene. The moose was killed in the collision.
