UMaine assistant basketball coach Amy Vachon has been promoted to Associate Head Coach, taking over the spot vacated by Todd Steelman.

Steelman left UMaine last week to become head coach at Presbyterian University in South Carolina.

Vachon joined head coach Richard Barron's staff back in 2011.

She won state championships as a player with Cony HS in Augusta and was the 1996 Miss Maine Basketball Award winner.

At UMaine, Vachon was a two-time captain and helped the Black Bears to four straight NCAA appearances.

Just yesterday, Vachon was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame.

NOTE: Edniesha Curry has been promoted to be Maine's second assistant.
