Underage Drinking Party in Cary Plantation Leads to High Speed Chase

Maine State Police arrested two teens early Sunday, including a 17-year-old boy who they say led them on a high speed chase through three towns in southern Aroostook County.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, State Police received an anonymous complaint of an underage drinking party in Cary Plantation. Trooper Carman Lilley and Sgt. Alden Bustard responded to a home on the Haney Road and located the party in a field behind the residence.

The officers made contact with several juvenile and while looking for others who fled into the woods, a 17-year-old male started his 2011 Jeep Wrangler and accelerated as Trooper Lilley was approaching the vehicle. State Police said the Jeep sideswiped a vehicle that was parked in front of it, causing damage.

A high speed chase ensued from the Haney Road onto U.S. Route 1 southbound towards Orient. Police said the Jeep Wrangler reached speeds as high as 90 mph before it went off the road near the Orient Port of Entry.

The teen was apprehended after a short foot chase and was arrested and taken to the Aroostook County Jail. He will face felony level charges due to his actions, police say. The teen was not injured and the vehicle had minor damage from going off the road. The pursuit covered a distance of approximately 17 miles.

The juvenile male who was responsible for the party will face charges as well for providing a place for minors to consume alcohol. The investigation into both incidents is continuing.
