UMaine defenseman Dan Renouf is giving up his senior year of college eligibility and signing a pro contract with the Detroit Red Wings organization.

Renouf will report to Detroit's AHL team, the Grand Rapids Griffins.

In his just completed junior year with the Black Bears, Renouf was the top scoring defenseman with 6 goals, 9 assists for 15 points in 38 games.

His 3-year career totals at UMaine: 10 goals, 28 assists in 111 games.

The Ontario native has the size that pro teams like, 6-foot-3 and 209 lbs.

NOTE: Former UMaine players Jimmy Howard and Gustav Nyquist started their Red Wings pro careers playing for the Grand Rapids AHL team. The Griffins are currently are 36-20-1 and in second place in the Central Division of the AHL.
