With their season opening game against Boston College four weeks away the University of Maine football team opened training camp on Monday at Alfond Stadium. In their first workout of the season the Bears were on the practice field for about 90 minutes withthe offense and defense going through individual and team drills. Coach Jack Cosgrove said players came into camp in great shape and with high energy levels.

One position to watch is the quarterback spot where Drew Belcher returns for his sophomore season and Dan Collins returns after an injury cost him much of last season. Belcher took over the reins when Collins went down and threw for 740 yards and 3 touchdowns, he was also the second leading rusher with 455 yards.

On defense the bears will need to replace defensive Davonte Burke who missed part f last season with a torn ACL. He will also miss this season after tearing the opposite ACL during a pick-up basketball game over the summer.
