Presque Isle High School and Madawaska Middle/High School were among the top 2000 schools nationwide, based on student's performance on state assessments in reading and math, student-teacher ratios, and how well the high schools prepare students for further education by offering a college‐level curriculum.

Three Maine schools received a gold medal on the U.S. News & World Report annual ranking: Yarmouth High School, Falmouth High School and Cape Elizabeth High School.

Fourteen other schools in the state, including Presque Isle (MSAD #1)  and Madawaska, were awarded a silver medal.
