Trooper Jared Sylvia responded to the single-vehicle accident on the Haney Road shortly after 10:30 p.m.

Police say 59-year-old Timothy McGary and his 26-year-old passenger were traveling west on a section of the Haney Road that is unplowed and not maintained this time of year. McGary lost control of his 2011 GMC pickup on the ice and snow, went off the road and struck a tree, according to Cpl. Chuck Michaud.

McGary’s truck caught on fire shortly after striking the tree. He sustained only minor cuts and scratches and his passenger was uninjured, Michaud said. The two walked to McGary’s residence nearby to notify police.

The Houlton Fire Department responded to the scene. The truck was a complete loss.
