Trisha Yearwood can now add actress to her long resume. The country singer, host of Trisha's Southern Kitchen and cookbook writer, will star in Fox's upcoming musical The Passion.

According to the Television Critics Association, the two-hour live television special is set in modern-day and will tell the story of Jesus Christ's last hours during the Last Supper. Yearwood will play the role of Mary, the mother of Jesus, while singer Prince Royce will play disciple Peter. Meanwhile, Tyler Perry will narrate the story.

The Passion will air on Fox on March 20 at 8PM ET and will air live at various locations in New Orleans. The script was written by High School Musical’s Peter Barsocchini and is told through the use of popular music, which was arranged by executive producer and music producer Adam Anders (Glee, Rock of Ages).

Entertainment Weekly reports that Fox will air several additional musicals including Grease: Live which stars Julianne Hough as Sandy, Aaron Tveit as Danny Zuko and Vanessa Hudgens as Betty Rizzo, on Jan. 31. The Passion isn't the first time a country artist has starred in a musical. Carrie Underwood performed in NBC's Sound of Music Live! in 2013 and the success prompted NBC to continue the musical route with Peter Pan Live!. The success of both musicals continues as NBC announced its next musical will be Hairspray.

Yearwood is currently on the road with husband Garth Brooks for his world tour where he continues to sell out venue after venue. Meanwhile, Yearwood shows no signs of slowing down herself as she released her third cookbook, Trisha’s Table: My Feel-Good Favorites for a Balanced Life last year and continues to host her cooking show on the Food Network.
