Watch Trace Adkins Play the Bad Guy in ‘Traded’ [Exclusive Video]

In the upcoming new movie Traded, Trace Adkins stars as Ty Stover, a cutthroat, cold-hearted guy -- someone you don't want to be alone in a room with, because he's ruthless and good with a gun. Readers will figure that all out pretty quickly when they watch the above exclusive clip.

Traded, according to the film's director, is the Western version of Liam Neeson’s Taken. But Adkins didn't sign onto the project because he loves Neeson; he signed on because of country legend Kris Kristofferson, who also stars in the movie, as an old barkeep named Billy.

"When they told me Kristofferson was in, I said, 'Okay, I'll do it,'" Adkins tells The Boot. "Ended up, I didn't have any scenes with him. But I just wanted to be in a project with Kris."

Though Adkins didn't rub elbows with the fellow country star in any scenes, he says that the film was still worth it -- "a feather in my bonnet."

"Kristofferson is a legend, and I just wanted to be something he was in," Adkins notes, "just as simple as that."

As fans can see in the scene above, Adkins plays a pretty tough guy. While some of Hollywood's actors work hard to get into character, Adkins says that he just took the role as it came.

"I just looked at the script and said, 'Well, this is who this guy is. He's a bad guy and pretty scrupulous,'" Adkins remembers. "So, I didn't have to prepare; I just did it."

Spoiler alert: The singer tells The Boot that his favorite scene in the movie is actually when he dies "because I've never died in a movie before. I just thought that was cool."

When Adkins isn't in front of the camera, as country music fans know, he's behind the microphone -- and he's currently excited about his forthcoming record, which he says should drop in the fall. The disc will include his current single, "Jesus and Jones."

“It’s freaking awesome. It’s a good album,” Adkins admits. “I spent the last couple years working on this, and there’s been no sense of urgency: Nobody’s been pushing me; we’ve taken our time. I’m really pleased with the way it turned out.”

Traded is set to open on June 10 in New York City; Los Angeles, Calif.; Chicago, Ill.; Philadelphia, Pa.; Dallas, Texas; Washington, D.C.; Houston, Texas; Phoenix, Ariz.; Denver, Colo.; and Kansas City, Mo. It will also be available on demand and Digital HD.
