Tractor-Trailer Strikes State Police Cruiser on I-95
A state trooper escaped injury Monday morning when his cruiser was struck by a tractor-trailer along Interstate 95 between Lincoln and Medway.
According to Lt. John Cote of the Maine State Police, trooper recruit Adam Bell was traveling south on I-95 and had stopped at the scene of a crash where a vehicle had gone into the median.
Bell was on duty and in a fully marked car with blue lights activated and parked in the breakdown lane. Cote said it was raining at the time and freezing upon contact with the road surface.
Bell was walking towards the vehicle in the median when the operator of a 2013 Freightliner, also south-bound, lost control on the icy road. The rig struck the vehicle in the median before crashing into the patrol car, Lt. Cote said.
The tractor trailer eventually came to a stop in the median. No one was injured but all three vehicles sustained major damage.
Police say the tractor trailer driver, 49-year-old Heming Guo of Las Vegas, Nevada was traveling too fast for the road conditions. Guo was summonsed for Imprudent Speed.
