Trace Adkins appears to be struggling once again with alcoholism, but the 54-year-old singer has the support of the people closest to him as he faces his demons.

Adkins seemed visibly intoxicated at a performance Wednesday night (July 13) in Seaside Heights, N.J., as part of a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Fans who attended the Rockin’ Country Thunder 106 Guys With Guitars Under the Stars show posted multiple videos to social media the following day of Adkins slumped on a stool, mumbling the lyrics to his songs into the microphone as his band played. According to multiple reports, the singer left the stage early.

The show was to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, of which Adkins is a longtime supporter. It was later announced that Adkins had donated his appearance fee for the show to St. Jude. The "Jesus and Jones" singer has not commented publicly on the matter, and has not posted to social media since it happened, but a source close to Adkins says everyone is rallying around him.

"This illness is an everyday fight," the unnamed source tells People. "Trace is a fighter and everyone is pulling for him."

That includes the country music industry and fans. “The events from last night were unfortunate and upsetting to many,” Thunder 106 station manager AJ Colantoni posted following the concert. “Nonetheless, all members of the country music world and empathetic fans of Thunder Nation are united in sending our love, support and prayers to Trace!”

A random sampling of Taste of Country's Facebook page reveals fans are mostly supporting the singer as well.

"Alcoholism is a daily battle, I've been fighting it 10 years now," writes one reader.
"Trace please go back to rehab, get back on the right path. We're all praying for you.
And unless you're fighting this demon you have no clue how hard it is."

"I was at the concert that night. Hurts my heart when people are so quick to judge," another says. "He is a great man who is unfortunately dealing with demons many of us will never understand. I pray God grants him the strength to overcome this."

Adkins has been open in the past about his struggle with alcoholism. He entered rehab in 2001 after an intervention from his family, and again in 2014 after a confrontation with a Trace Adkins impersonator on a country cruise. No announcement has been made as to how the fallout from his performance in New Jersey may impact his upcoming tour dates.
