Of particular concern are Time Warner customers who have an email address via the RoadRunner service which ends “@rr.com.

Reuters reported that Time Warner was informed by the FBI about the situation and that the FBI was also contacting other internet service providers that had been affected by a similar attack. Announcements from other email service providers may follow soon.

Time Warner Cable said it is sending emails and direct mail to advise customers to update their email passwords.

Additionally, if you have used the same password for other accounts, particularly online banking, you are urged to change those passwords as soon as possible.

The breach comes about two months after Comcast reset the email passwords for nearly 200,000 subscribers because they discovered passwords were being listed for sale online.
