RCMP say 27-year-old Luke Ellick, of Three Brooks, appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court Tuesday morning and was charged with first-degree murder. He was arrested early Monday morning at his residence.

A charge of first-degree murder was also laid in court against 21-year-old James Melanson, originally of Moncton. He is currently in custody on an unrelated matter.

A third man, 28-year-old Kurt Hudnut, of Moncton, was previously charged with first-degree murder on June 14, in connection with Rattray’s death, police say.

Wayne Rattray was reported missing on March 2. Human remains that were discovered near Renous on May 21 were confirmed to be his, and the investigation led police to believe he had been murdered.

Kurt Hudnut remains in custody and will return to court on July 8. Luke Ellick has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on July 18. James Melanson's court date has not yet been determined.

The investigation is ongoing.
