Thomas Rhett is nominated for two CMA Awards in 2016, Song of the Year and Single of the Year, both for his chart-topping tune "Die a Happy Man." The singer says that the song, written about his wife of four years, Lauren, is the gift that, happily, keeps on giving.

""Die a Happy Man" has just been one of those songs for me, that I’ve just constantly been like, ‘How in the world? What is it about this song?’" Rhett told The Boot before the 2016 CMT Artists of the Year ceremony. "Song of the Year is one of those that I’ve always wanted to be nominated for; because I started out as a songwriter, the song has always been so close to me. So to be in that category with such amazing songs is unbelievable."

"Die a Happy Man" is extra-special to Rhett and his wife because it is their personal love story (which just so happened to resonate with millions of fans).

"I think the reason it translated so much is because every single line in the song is directly personal to our relationship and our marriage," Rhett shares. "I think my fans looked at that and saw it as very genuine, which it was, and I think that’s the reason it was so successful. It was one of the most fun songs I ever got to write."

As he prepares to embark on his first-ever headlining tour, the 2017 Home Team Tour, Rhett admits that he is a bit surprised by his level of success thus far.

"I don’t even know what to think. I just hope I’m prepared for all these adventures I’m about to set out on," Rhett shares. "This year has been amazing; it’s one for the books. When I look back in 20 or 30 years, I know this year will be very memorable to me."

The 2016 CMA Awards will air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Nov. 2 at 8PM ET on ABC.
