TAMC's commitment to providing low cost, easily accessible and enjoyable activities to promote a healthy lifestyle continues - and will encompass the entire month of March.

The winter of 2015-2016 may go on record as being the warmest we’ve ever experienced. Spring seems to be creeping up a bit earlier this year and what better way to welcome it than to “Swim into Spring.”

TAMC has again teamed with UMPI to offer a spring swimming series at the university’s pool at Gentile Hall. Every Sunday afternoon from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. throughout the month of March, kids can swim for only $1, while adults may enter for $2.

The pool is limited to eighty people, so the early bird gets the worm, so to speak. In case people have to wait to enter the pool, they’re encouraged to bring a pair of sneakers as the gym will be available. An adult must be present for all children thirteen and under, and parents must sign a liability form.

Although it’s been an interesting winter in northern Maine, TAMC’s Fit & Fun series has been quite a success so far. TAMC Free Skate Days at The Forum in Presque have been very popular as were the Snowshoe Hikes and most recently, the Free Ladies Rock Wall and Fit Camp Demo at UMPI.

According to Jamie Guerrette, community engagement specialist at TAMC, more than fifty women of all different age groups attended the Rock Wall event, many of them first time climbers. Guerrette said:

A big thanks goes to Keli Marston for keeping the ladies moving while they waited to climb. The walking track was a huge success as well.”

Guerrette says a lot of credit goes to the staff of Gentile Hall for making this event possible.

UMPI has been a wonderful partner for us and they share the same goal of helping the people in our community get healthier and try to live a more active lifestyle,” said Guerrette, “We look forward to partnering with them on many more events in the future.”

A full listing of activities for the Fit & Fun series can be found by going to the TAMC website at www.tamc.org.  Organizations that would like to add an event to the Fit & Fun schedule can do so by contacting Guerrette at jguerrette@tamc.org or (207) 768-4008.

TAMC’s ultimate goal for the Fit & Fun series is to help decrease both childhood obesity and the number of adults with cardiovascular disease risk factors.
