On this day in 1992, country music had a new heartthrob.  Billy Ray Cyrus shot to stardom with his breakout hit ‘Achy Breaky Heart.’  It became the first single ever to achieve triple Platinum status in Australia and was a huge crossover hit in the U.S.  It also added to the early nineties ‘line dance’ craze.

On this day in 1982, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson hit the top spot with the song, ‘Just to Satisfy You.’  The song was initially a regional solo hit for Jennings in the 60s but his remake in 1982 shot straight to No.1.

On this day in 1993, John Michael Montgomery scored his first No.1 hit with “I Love the Way You Love Me.”  It was the second song released from his debut album Life’s a Dance and went on to become the ACM Song of the Year.

George Strait is no stranger to the top of the charts.  On this day in 1997, “King George” landed yet another No.1 with “One Night at a Time.”  The song was the first single from his album Carrying Your Love with Me.

On this day in 1992, Brooks & Dunn had a No.1 hit with “Neon Moon,” a song written by Ronnie Dunn.  It was the third release from their debut album and their third consecutive chart-topper.

Charley Pride’s second single from his album Happiness of Having You became his sixteenth No.1 song.  The song, “My Eyes Can Only See as Far as You,” spent a week at the top and a total of ten weeks on the chart.

Clint Black had the No.1 song in country music on this day in 1994 with “A Good Run of Bad Luck.”  It was the fourth single from his No Time to Kill album and was also featured in the modern western ‘Maverick,’ starring James Garner, Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster.

On this day in 1989, The Judds scored their 13th No.1 song with “Young Love (Strong Love).”  It was the first single from the River of Time album.

In 1994 the No.1 country song on this day belonged to Faith Hill.  Hill took a chance early in her career with a country version of a rock and roll classic.  “Piece of My Heart” was originally recorded and made famous by Big Brother and the Holding Company with the unmistakable Janis Joplin.  Many have covered the song but Hill took it to No.1.
