Tammy Wynette scored her seventh No.1 solo hit on this day in 1970.  The song, ‘He Loves Me All the Way,’ spent three weeks at the top and fourteen on the country chart.

Country megastar Alan Jackson had the No.1 song in country music on this day back in 1993.  The summer anthem ‘Chattahoochee’ received awards for Single and Song of the Year and also had a pretty fun video as you can see below.

The most successful band in country music history scored their tenth No.1 song on this day in 1983.  The band is Alabama and the song was ‘The Closer You Get.’

On this day in 1989, Eddy Raven landed at the top of the charts with the song ‘In a Letter to You.’  It was Raven’s fifth No.1, holding the spot for one week but staying in the Top 40 for fourteen weeks.

On this day in 1986, Lee Greenwood had the No.1 country song in the nation with “Hearts Aren’t Made to Break (They’re Made to Love).”  It was Greenwood’s sixth song to reach the top and can be found on his album Streamline.

In April of 1981, Earl Thomas Conley released the title cut from his album Fire and Smoke.  On this day that same year, the song reached No.1 on the charts becoming Conley’s first to reach the top.  It would later become the No.1 country song of 1981.

On this day in 1982, Country singer Janie Fricke landed her first solo No.1 with the song ‘Don’t Worry ‘bout Me Baby.’  Fricke had some success as a background vocalist and duet partner with Charlie Rich, but this song was her first solo hit.

Neal McCoy scored his second consecutive No.1 song on this day in 1994 with the song ‘Wink.’ It was the second single from McCoy’s album No Doubt About It.  The song received a BMI award for most-performed country song that year.

On this day in 1972, Hank Williams Jr scored a No.1 hit with the only single from his album Eleven Roses.  The song, ‘Eleven Roses,’ became Hank Jr’s first to reach the top of the country charts.

On this day in 1980, the late George Jones’ signature song settled in at No.1.  ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today’ has been hailed as the greatest country song of all time.  At the time, it was Jones’ first No.1 song in six years.  Shortly after George Jones died this year, the song charted again at No.21.
