Survey Says: Women Rock the Workplace at EMMC

Eastern Maine Medical Center was recently ranked among the top 20 healthcare employers for women in Forbes’ first ever “Best Employers for Women” list.

The hospital ranked number 18 among healthcare organizations, and number 77 overall, out of companies considered nationwide.

For its list, the magazine partnered with a respected market research firm to survey more than 40,000 employees, including 25,000 women, at companies across the US.

“We are very proud to be included in this listing of companies that value and appreciate the wonderful contributions women make, not only to our organization, but to businesses across the country,” says Donna Russell-Cook, FACHE, president, Eastern Maine Medical Center. “Providing our female workers, and all employees, with the right development and leadership opportunities is critical to building a culture of diversity, inclusion, and equality at Eastern Maine Medical Center.”

Twenty-five percent of Eastern Maine Medical Center’s executive leadership team is female, including its president. In addition, three women serve on the Medical Center’s board of trustees, and women make up an impressive 79 percent of Eastern Maine Medical Center’s management team. One example of the hospital’s commitment to female employees is the addition of pumping rooms for nursing mothers returning to work.

The survey was conducted on companies from all industry sectors employing more than 1,000 people, and organizations are ranked based on four different criteria: direct recommendation – work topics in general; direct recommendation – topics relevant for women in particular; indirect recommendations; and diversity among top executives and board members. The companies receiving the highest total scores were awarded Best Employers for Women 2018.
