Todd Steelman has been announced as the new head coach of Presbyterian College, according to release by the school on Wednesday morning.

Steelman joins the Blue Hose staff after spending the previous four years as the associate head coach under Richard Barron at the University of Maine.  He was also the community relations manager and focused on engaging the team’s outreach with community service projects during his UMaine tenure.

“I am honored and thrilled to begin my journey as the women's basketball coach here at Presbyterian College,” said Coach Steelman in the press release. “It is a very exciting time for me and my family, without question, and I would like to thank President Bob Staton and [Brian] Reese for giving me this opportunity.”

Barron was also happy to see his friend and colleague move on to this new opportunity with Presbyterian.

“PC is a terrific school and I can think of no one who better exemplifies the ideals and values of PC. Todd was an integral part of our success rebuilding Maine's program and he has left his mark in the community. I am excited to see him put his own stamp on a program. We will cheer for PC and wish Todd and his family all the best,” said Barron in the Presbyterian College press release.

There has been no formal announcement by the program or the University of Maine about possible replacements for the associate position.  UMaine finished with a tie for first place in the America East conference during the 2015-16 season and lost in the first round of the WNIT versus Quinnipiac last month.
