The City of Presque Isle has now operated its own ambulance service since April 1.

Fire Chief Darrell White says, “It is going extremely well and all staff including the six newly hired paramedics are fully trained.  Our ambulance service is providing Advanced Life Support service.  This is the highest level of pre-hospital care allowed in Maine with cardiac monitoring, fluids, and more.”

For ANY emergency in the City – police, fire or ambulance/EMS, residents simply need to dial 911.  By dialing 911, residents get highly trained dispatchers who are trained in Emergency Medical Dispatching.  This means they can assist you with helping to provide care before the ambulance arrives, which has been proven to provide better outcomes for those needing ambulance transport.  State statute requires the public to dial 911 to get ambulance or any other emergency service.  Dialing 911 will get you the fastest response.  The 911 service can also track you if you don’t know where you are or if you become unresponsive due to an injury or health issue.  The most important thing residents need to know is that dialing anything other than 9-1-1 puts you at risk.

In addition to emergency ambulance service, the City’s ambulance also offers hospital to hospital transfers, hospital to home service, and long distance transport.  This service belongs to the community and is here for their benefit.  Residents are encouraged to call to set up blood screening clinics, first aid classes, and other training by calling 769-0881.  Interested in getting an up close look at the fire or ambulance equipment?  Call 769-0881 to arrange that as well.

The mission of the Presque Isle Fire Department is to provide to the citizens of Presque Isle a highly trained and equipped staff of professional responders. Presque Isle Fire Department is completely dedicated to providing life and property protection though fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire prevention, education and inspections.
