Standoff in Fredericton Area Ends Peacefully After 9 1/2 Hours
The RCMP arrested a 37-year-old New Brunswick man Tuesday morning after he allegedly secured himself inside his home with a firearm and refused to come out for over 9 hours.
Shortly after 9:00 Monday night, police responded to a home on a street just off Highway 101 in Beaver Dam, just below Fredericton. The man's child was also in the home at the time, according to Constable Derek Black of the West District RCMP.
Some nearby homes were evacuated as a safety precaution.
RCMP negotiators were on the scene overnight and at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, the man exited the house and was taken into custody, Cst. Black reported. The child was unharmed.
The RCMP continues to investigate the incident.
